In January 1983, at 16, Elisabeth decided to run away, seeking refuge in Vienna with a friend she knew from work. But the torture at home became unbearable. ![]() Keen on creating a life of her own, she embarked on a training program to become a waitress. Life wasn’t easy for Elisabeth, as she reportedly started enduring sexual abuse from her father from the age of 11, starting in 1977.Īs Elisabeth grew older, she finished her required schooling when she was 15, just like most kids her age in Austria. One of these girls was Elisabeth, born on April 6, 1966. Together, they went on to have seven kids – three boys and four girls. At a relatively young age of 21, in 1956, he married Rosemarie, a girl of 17. Josef Fritzl, the man at the heart of this chilling story, was born in 1935, in the quiet town of Amstetten in Lower Austria.
